Aviation operations at Robins Air Force Base depend on infrastructure that can support large military aircraft and the crews that keep them mission-ready. The base needed a hangar capable of accommodating the C-17 Globemaster — one of the largest strategic airlifters in the Air Force fleet — with room for the aircraft, maintenance operations, and support equipment to work efficiently under one roof.
This was not basic storage. It called for durable military aviation infrastructure engineered for continuous operational performance: expansive clear-span space, efficient aircraft access and maneuverability, protected working conditions for maintenance crews, and reliable protection from weather exposure.
The solution was a custom 215’ × 120’ steel-frame-supported tension membrane aircraft hangar engineered specifically for military aviation. The clear-span design eliminates interior columns entirely, letting maintenance teams position the aircraft, service vehicles, and specialized equipment anywhere within the hangar. Durable steel framing carries the structure; a weather-resistant tensioned fabric membrane provides the enclosure.
The result: a large-scale C-17 hangar that gives Robins improved maintenance workspace, protected servicing environments, and durable aviation infrastructure supporting ongoing aircraft readiness and mission-critical operations.
