Inspired by Southern California’s temperate climate and the site’s spectacular city views, this 14,000-square-foot residence is designed as an entertainer’s urban haven. The narrowness of the lot drove the design: a grand hallway acts as a spine for the main rooms, giving them high ceilings, abundant natural light, and oversized glazing that opens to the outdoors — blurring the boundary between living spaces and patio gardens. Gray striated marble walls emphasize the length of the corridor; indoor and outdoor water features and a palette of gray and cream stone, metal, and glass carry themes of transparency, light, and fire throughout.
The home is approached by an expansive planted circular vehicle court. The lower level holds the entry foyer, living room, spiral staircase hall, library, dining room facing a wine storage room, kitchen and family room, media room, and service spaces. The upper level contains the master suite with his-and-hers closets and baths, an office, three en-suite bedrooms, a gym, and a full guest suite. The stair hall’s crisp white spiral staircase, treaded in charcoal-toned wood, ascends in its own dedicated volume.
The tight hillside lot was the central structural challenge — resolved by elevating most of the flat outdoor areas on caissons. A green lawn rests above the garage, completed by built-in seating and a linear fire pit flanked by olive trees. Beyond the polished stone deck, an extra-long infinity lap pool frames the view, holding a seemingly floating fire feature. The result is a modern urban haven that floats above the city below — held up by engineering you never see.
